Arriving by boat, just disembarked, we can travel along the large lakefront that offers a particularly wide view of the Sebino. Those who can stay here until the evening will see a beautiful sunset, when the blue of the water turns red.
The visit of the historic centre begins in the square where the mighty XIII century Bishop's Tower stands out and continues towards the parish church of S. Maria Assunta (18th century), with a prestigious organ. In this lively village, full of shops, it is nice to get lost in the maze of medieval alleys, walk the streets flanked by arcades, search for palaces, observe the stone portals, balconies with wrought iron railings and discover the ancient access doors . To visit via San Marco, Palazzo Fanzago (with its beautiful decorated façade), Piazza Mercanti, Piazza Berlai (the fortified heart of the village).
The Municipal Park, with numerous ancient and rare trees and beautiful rose gardens, awaits us for a stop. We are so ready to reach the church of S. Maria della Neve. In it we find the frescoes that illustrates the "Stories of Christ", a masterpiece of Romanino (XVI century). His is a rough and realistic painting where the faces, the appearance and the clothes of the characters are those of his contemporaries.
Even today, after centuries, the dramatic Crucifixion that stands in the back wall of the church arouses in us a strong emotion. Also worth visiting is the church of S. Maria in Silvis, which contains interesting frescoes from the 15th century
HISTORY
Already inhabited in prehistoric times, in the Middle Ages Pisogne was an important commercial centre between Valle Camonica valley and Sebino lake. Almost destroyed in the century XII in the rivalry between Bergamo and Brescia, the village was rebuilt with defensive walls and towers. The historic centre took on its current appearance in the eighteenth century, when it was embellished with arcades and beautiful residential buildings. It was an important market and place of economic activity, mainly in the iron and steel sector. In 1907 Pisogne was reached by the railway line, that still operates today.
